The city of Kortrijk, ever heard of it? Most likely, not, but last year Greenville officials visited the Belgian city as a part of a Sister Cities campaign. Now, a group of representatives from Kortrijk, led by mayor Vincent Van Quickenborne, are headed to Greenville for a week-long trip.
What’s the connection? It turns out we have old ties through the textile industry as well as a relationship through the US Army’s 30th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Somme in the First World War – according to FlandersToday.
Co-operation. That’s the goal with this trip as representatives from the city’s investment, trade, education, and finance divisions as well as HoWest University.
