Climb Upstate will be hosting a Community Climbing Day event on November 11, 2017 at their indoor rock climbing gym in Spartanburg. The event is open to the public of all ages. Climb Upstate is located at 6655 Pottery Rd in Spartanburg, SC.
“Rock Climbing is incredible for your physical and mental health, it’s an extremely social sport, and unfortunately, not a lot of people have had access to it.” states Ashley Crane, the Events Coordinator at Climb Upstate. “Our goal with this event is to make climbing accessible to our community. If you just want to come in and try it out, you can book a Free Day Pass and we’ll have volunteers there to help you climb! If you’re interested in learning more about climbing, we’ve got three free exciting classes for you to choose from.”
The Community Climbing Day will be a drop in event from 9am – 6 pm. Day Passes will be free all day, as well as entry to Rock Climbing 101 Classes (age 16+), Bouldering Clinics (ages 7+), and Rescue Clinics (ages 13+) hosted by Thrifty Adventures. Climbing gear and rental shoes are included in the classes, and day pass holders can rent for free as available. Families are welcome to bring picnics to enjoy while at the event, and those who register within 48 hours of the event will receive a free, healthy snack from vendors. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead with a tentative group size, and pre-registration can be found at ClimbUpstate.com.
“We’ve got some really exciting vendors coming to join us!” says Christina Grant, Gym Manager. “Not only will we have local vendors Spartanburg County Parks and Hub City Co-op, but we have REI coming from Greenville, Thrifty Adventures visiting and teaching classes from North Carolina, the US National White Water Center from Charlotte, and the team from national Outdoor Sport Connection!”
The Vendors attending will be giving out free snacks, and passing along information on how to live an active and healthy lifestyle in our community.
